Meet our Keepers!

GR’s TLS Keepers are here to help guide you on your therapeutic self-exploration journey. Unlike western models of therapeutic support, Keepers recognize themselves as whole human beings. They know that their different experiences, cultural contexts, educational backgrounds, and personalities inform the Therapeutic Listening relationship. A Black person may want a Black Keeper. A fat person may want a fat Keeper, and a disabled person may want a disabled Keeper. Depending on what parts of yourself you wish to explore, you may find that different Keepers with different life experiences can support you in different ways.

Giovanni’s Room’s Therapeutic Listening Services are growing slowly, so check back periodically as we add more Keepers to our community!

Meet Jota!

Hola! I’m Jota (ho-tuh), a Black American descendant of enslaved Africans, and the creator of the TLS framework. I’m a queer, trans, non-binary millennial, born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I love to cook, hike, and talk to plants and animals. As a bookish nerd and recovering academic, I will be forever curious about alternative ways of knowing and exploring the world around me. My community members would say that my communication style is loving yet direct, and probably that I ask too many questions.

I currently reside outside of Turtle Island (the USA) as a refugee. I’m super excited to support others on their self-exploration journeys. In order to best support clients, I draw on my academic background in developmental psychology, my years of practice as a trained clinician, and the wisdom I have gained from nearly 15 years of deconstructing western models of psychology. One of my wildest dreams for myself and my community has always been to build a more holistic and earth-centered model of human health. TLS is an important milestone on that journey.

I am most interested in how our childhood experiences impact the relationships that we are able to form and sustain as adults, and how our indoctrination in WSC & capitalism affects how we practice love and care with ourselves and in community with others.

Jota is currently accepting clients!

I work with a sliding donation scale of $50-$250. Donations are made electronically, and your donation helps pay for my labor, as well as fund GR community resources such as community rooms, podcasts/publications, and our GR Underground Library.

I also offer one-time acute TLS sessions, which carry a donation rate of $65 for one hour of support. These are for People who seek one-time support with a conflict, life transition, emotional difficulty, etc. Acute TLS depends on my availability and capacity, and usually requires 12-24 hours advance notice.

Time Zone: Pacific Standard Time (USA)

Communication Style: Direct

Preferred Clients: Black & POC, Queer/Trans
