The Developmental Experience Inventory (DEI) is a mini-workbook designed to help community members better understand how the belief systems we developed in childhood have shaped us into the people we are today.

The DEI is one of the tools included in The Choreography of Conflict transformation framework.

Whether you’re using the DEI to help you work through conflict or you’re just getting to know yourself better, the questions and wisdom in this playful and dynamic resource will change the way you think about yourself and the people in your community.

The DEI takes us from the day we were born all the way up to the present, and asks us to think about all of the variables, all of the decisions that led to us becoming the current version of ourselves. Our geography, our ancestral history, our first time falling off of a bike–all of it shapes how we interact with ourselves and the people around us.

When we get into an argument with a friend over something small and we overreact, everything we’ve learned about how to handle disagreement and big feelings is in the room with us. And the DEI brings awareness to how our childhood fights with our siblings can lead to us blowing up at our friends or avoiding conflict altogether. All of the people we’ve ever been are still right here inside of us. The DEI helps them feel heard and understood.
